WWU Courses
This page is meant for those who have taken some relevant courses to vet school (such as Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Communication, or really any courses you think are relevant to vet school!) Feel free to write the name of the course, the professor you had, thoughts about the course, the homework load, test difficulty, etc! PLEASE keep the comments appropriate, do NOT start bad-mouthing the professors, we can get in trouble for that. Be fair, honest, and kind, and help your fellow students out!
In order for me to put your submissions on here, send your thoughts on the courses to: [email protected]
Put your name, course description (Ex: Bio 321), short paragraph about the course / professor, or anything about the class!

Relevant Course List
Chemistry:
Chem 351, 352, 353: I am currently in Chem 353, but overall the series has been a good one, tough, but overall good. I had Dr. C. O’Neil for 351, Dr. Markworth for 352, and Dr. O’Neil again for 353. O’Neil is a fabulous professor, but with VERY hard exams. Markworth is also a great professor, but with slightly easier exams. Book is pretty expensive, and so is solution manual, but it is 100% worth buying because you get to use the same book for all 3 quarters and it is INCREDIBLY helpful. The exams are usually pretty hard, doing practice problems and working through flashcards is your best bet for a good grade, but A’s are doable. Expect to spend a lot of extra time studying and working through problems, this series is much harder than general chemistry, but WAY more interesting! Homework is usually easy points, which is nice, but it does help you for the exams too. Overall, I have enjoyed ochem, and glad I took it! Final of 353 is the ACS exam, which is a standardized exam which covers all 3 ochem courses, but apparently WWU students do better than the national average usually, and I have heard it isn’t too hard. Will update after I take it!

Biology:
Biol 482: Developmental Biology of Animals
I had Dr. Leaf for Biol 482 and I really enjoyed it. The class is very interesting and you essentially learn every key molecular process and interaction that occurs in the creation of an embryo, along with lots of experimental techniques used in embryonic research. Dr. Leaf tends to focus on teaching his students how to think like a molecular biologist, so pay extra attention to the experiments he shows and the methods used even if he doesn't particularly seem to highlight them in the lecture. Also, pay attention to similar processes in different types of animals because this is another thing that he believes to be important and it tends to show up on tests. This class was fairly small and personal, and Dr. Leaf is a lot of help if you go to him in person during his office hours to ask questions. I would definitely recommend it!
